Description:
Like many who stumble into the field of Behavior Analysis, it was love at first sight. Witnessing the impact of behavioral technologies and interventions has always been awe-inspiring, to say the least. I became so engulfed in the field that I forgot to look around at what everyone else outside of behavioral science was doing. I have since changed that and explored how to utilize our practices to identify and chase down other areas of passion for blending with Behavior Analysis (e.g., online education, sports, dissemination strategies). I believe Behavior Analysis’s most exciting days are ahead of us but that we need to emphasize expanding our professional skill sets and networks if we have any shot at bringing about the vision of “Saving the world with Behavior Analysis” that so many have talked about and dreamt. Our field has achieved this to various degrees with select markets, and this is not to discredit that work; however, we must stand upon the shoulders of these “giants” and work with other professionals to achieve this vision. I will first highlight various applications in which behavior analysis has impacted socially significant outcomes including areas of the literature that many behavior analysts are not aware of or fully utilize. Next, an overview of various frameworks for goal-setting will be reviewed along with some best-practices in this area.
